that's funny....but to alleviate this problem, just have it spawn a certain number of baddies per guild member....think UT04's Invasion

perhaps those who die would have no choice but to choose a different waypoint to map to. Those who are brand new to pre-sear would res in a different district. (say the attack is always on the most populated district at any given time)

Hehe, playing Star Wars Galaxies before?

But I like the idea - would add another fun factor besides UW and Fissure.

Ah. That'd work just fine. Now just hope you're not a monk that doesn't deal damage. Of course there are the 4 henchies standing around.

Well, I'd hope so. I wouldn't want to join a completely empty district and suddenly be stuck in a massive assault being the only one to defend.

How bout a GM takes care of it.

GM goes to an area where you'll find players around the levels of the monsters.
teleports the players who want to join to a place which u normally can't reach, or just a replica of a part of Ascalon.
Then let the invading begin.
at least 24 people in it or something would be quite funny.

I'd picture it like a guild battle, except there'd be many more of them, and instead of having a lord to take down, you'd just have to take down the opposing forces.

As for the town.. can you say lag? I don't care how well they impliment it, all those firestorms are going to cause a few people to slow down. Maybe every hour or so it would chose 50 random people between all the districts, and only those people would recieve a message stating that whatever town is going to be attacked, and have, say, a two minute timer counting down (like pre-searing Ascalon before you go into the acadamy. You could get out of it by switching districts if you wanted, and after two minutes, those 50 (or less) would be sent to a battle district that looks exactly like the town, only battle ready. It could be either everyone is a party, or there are smaller parties, but in any case it would be them vs whatever. The battle would be something like 10 minutes long, with a two minute prep time for people to try to get some sort of organization (warriors up front forming a wall, rangers on the ledge, fire elementalists try to hit the large groups). During the attack anyone could leave at any time if they wanted to (but not warp them out if they died, there are raise spells for a reason). After the attack everyone would split 50 platinum, giving everyone 1 plat each if everyone stays, or more if lots of people leave (sort of an incentive to stay over just a flat 1 plat reward for everyone). If everyone on the map died, then it would be like "mission failed" and everyone would go back to wherever they came from. Of course, these monsters might also be given drops, and they would be assigned randomly like current drops. In any case, it would be team strategy, and there's a reward for doing it, and it wouldn't be farming.

Some more ideas that came up while writing this, maybe it could be like the ascalon thing, where you "sign up" to defend against the next raid. Though instead of giving you henches to fill the gaps, it would just be whoever signed up. Sure, if you wound up with 15 people defending ascalon for 10 minutes it would most likely be a slaughter fest where you'd lose, but if you won, the reward would be much larger (larger reward for more challenge!)

Also, maybe since each area would have different leveled mobs, the rewards could be scaled appropriately. Maybe (assuming 50 people in each case) 2 plat per person at Droknar's, to 500 at Ascalon, or something.

Hope that's readable / understandable enough. Just my 2 cents at 3 am. I know I'd have fun defending whatever city, I've sometimes looked at some maps as a battleground (hmm.. this hill would be good for sniping...), but anyway, yeah. I think that's enough for now.

So they'd have to suddenly take the town instance (the district), and make it into a battle instance, vlock skill changes, upload commands from hundreds of players to hundreds of other players, as well as the 100's of mobs, and expect it not to flood your 56K modem?

Might break the current system they have.

after ascalon is leveled/destroyed
prices for all items increase!
makes u want to go to another town like yaks bend.

wouldnt it be cool if you're outside yaks bend & u hear the ground thundering? stampede? 100 yaks bear down upon u, & the music u hear is "yakkey yak, dont talk back"

one problem, we dont have our helms, or weapons, or shields equiped, yes they could make it so ur always haiving ur weapon and helms equiped but... that just wouldnt make it an outpost, you would never be able to change ur skills because ur not aloud to when u fite.... there are probaly more reasons but i can think of them, sry to doubt ur idea

If you read my version idea, you'd have (hopefully) seen that you'd get a countdown timer, and then you'd be whisked away to a new instance of ascalon for 50 or so people. No need for "mass toggle" in town, no comming back from AFK to find yourself in the middle of a battlezone (One thing I forgot to mention is that it would skip over you if your status was set to Away, which you can change from your friend list), et cetera.

Just an aside, is it just me, or do many people seem to only read the first post, maybe even the first 3 posts, and then post themselves? Maybe people can't be bothered to read something more than 100 words? Meh, that's another rant for another place and time.

Thumbs up Great idea - My 2 cents

You could say it would be like the Nolani mission, except the Charr come from everywhere instead of just one gate.

I think it would also reduce the server load if the max number of players was limited to the current maximum of 8 per battle. This way you could have 15 seperate battles going at once with 8 people per "district/town" and maybe 16 Charr per wave.

There would also be the issue of player levels, so maybe for Ascalon, only players of levels 3-12 would have a chance to fight, while higher level players would be left out.

The reward system would be that every enemy drops something, or maybe there could be no rewards except the satisfaction of a good fight.

Just my 2 cents.

I like your idea, but not just 1 district. Every district should be invaded. When the choice to participate or not comes up, if you choose not to, it sends you to the International District, or a holding district. Then for each person who survives the attack, they get a ribbon or something only for show.

Furthermore, Anet can just send the data to some fansite who'd be happy to run a little Newspaper like section, and they can put up a weekly page like,

CHARR INVADE ASCALON!

Early last Wednesday, two legions of Charr attacked what remains of Ascalon City.

The following Districts managed to repel the invaders: (list districts)

The following Districts were overrun: (list districts)

The following citizens received medals of service for their roles in the battle:
(Name of person) - (District they were in) - (Guild Affiliation)

I think this idea would so rock. Just like any major city, some districts are less populated. Some will have no people at all. These get overrun. You may find yourself in a situation where it's you and four strangers defending an entire district with only the NPCs to help. It would put the hero back into the game, instead of sending you on some broken ass storyline.

Yeah, I like all these ideas. Consider me /signed.

Lol.
I really like everything that Edge brought up. Who cares if you're the only person in a district? Think of the bragging rights if you hold out longer then some districts filled with people.

the very first time I reached... um... was it Northern Wall (the first mission) and I saw "cooperative mission" I entered the mission. After starting out the gate, for about 2 minutes, I was under the impression that ALL the people that I had seen in the outpost were playing in the same instance, once I got away from the wall, I realized there were no more green dots on teh compass, I started thinking that our party had gone the wrong way and lost the rest of the defenders...

in the quest wher u scoutt the charr then run for ur life, @ the end i turn around & face 25 charr. i usually die but its fun. if u have 7 people helping u plus som NPCs, major fun.

the thunderhead keep mision is like defending ascalon, but thunderhead is tedious & uber hard.

i'd love to see naked dance parties rushing to get their armor on! then u see a 1/2 naked necro dead at ur feet lol.

they should have special districts for it, so people can still use the city, and if they wanna fight they change district to fighting district

I definitely think a lot of this is do-able. Being whisked away into a quasi-mission to defend ascalon would be awesome. Some goals could be to protect certain citizens, certain areas, repel the attack or just plain survive. The level of the monsters could scale to the average level of the party.

I still think them attacking the guild halls would be easier to implement though, sicne those maps are already used for GvG. Defending the towns however, you'd get a LOT more people interacting.
